Although having these details is preferable, you have a few options.
Either contact the exiting tenant and ask them to check their bill for the ICP and meter type (please note their choice of retailer may not be the best retailer for you). From here you can use the Switchme calculator and use an approximate number of units to calculate the cheapest retailer for you.
If you cannot get these details from the exiting tenant, you can call Switchme on 03 371 9449 and one of our experienced reps can attempt to locate the ICP, complete a comparison and switch you to your choice of retailer
Switchme's database will advise you if the site is currently disconnected and will also advise your chosen retailer. They will contact you to arrange a reconnection. This can typically be completed within 2-4 hours including after-hours.
Please note that your retailer may charge a reconnection fee payable on your first bill. Furthermore, if the site has been disconnected for over 6 months, you may be required to first have an electrical inspector certify the site as safe to receive power, this will be at your expense.
Absolutely. You can request a switch at any stage. Please note that your previous retailer will likely bill you for the usage during the period you were with them at the new site along with any reconnection charges, however brief this period may have been.
While this is uncommon, each retailer has a choice of where they supply. Your retailer may have chosen not to supply power to the new site due to not being competitive, not wanting to aquire any more customers in this area, or for any other commercial or strategic reason.
Switchme do not compare Time-of-Use sites due to the complexity of the metering and billing structure that they attract. We recommend that you contact the current retailer to the site in the first instance to inform them of your tenancy.
If you wish to receive tenders to supply a TOU site, you may wish to employ an energy consultant to receive and analyse tenders and advise you of the ideal retailer. This is often worthwhile as the difference between a good offer and a bad offer is not often apparent, yet the difference in cost can be substantial. A suitable energy consultant can easily be found via a web search.
Thanks, we'll be in touch soon.
