Overview

Energy Direct NZ is an independent trading division of Wanganui Gas Limited.

In November 2001 Wanganui Gas launched Direct Energy New Zealand (Directenz) as our their brand for customers outside of the traditional sales areas of Wanganui, Marton and Bulls.

Following the entry into the electricity retail business in Manawatu and Taranaki, they carried out a review of their retail business and as a result in March 2007 they combined Wanganui Gas and Directenz customers under a single new energy brand Energy Direct NZ.

Today Energy Direct NZ is part of a multimillion dollar energy business, focused on providing reliable and cost efficient energy supply services.

  • Energy Direct's offices in Wanganui are open from 8.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. The offices are also open to personal callers from 9.00am to 12 noon on Saturday's. Energy Direct staff will be happy to help resolve any energy problems that you may have, face to face.

Who owns Energy Direct?
Energy Direct are a division of the privately-owned Wanganui Gas Limited.
Where is their head office?
Energy Direct's head office is located at 179 St Hill Street, Wanganui.
How often will my meters be read?
Energy Direct use a smart meter that will provide a monthly read. For sites not fitted with a smart meter, Energy Direct will typically have a meter reader manually read the meter every second month. You may be asked to provide specific access details to assist the reader in gaining this read.
My current retailer installed a smart meter and can read it remotely. Will my new retailer be able to read this meter remotely also?
Your new retailer may not necessarily be able to read your current Smart meter. Some retailers have the technology to remotely read other retailer’s meters, but this is not always the case. If you find your meter is incompatible with your new chosen retailer they will continue to send a meter reader to manually read it, or continue producing estimate bills when this is not possible.
