Who is Meridian and who owns the company ?

Meridian is the largest state-owned electricity generator in New Zealand and was formed on 31 March 1999 when the government split the Electricity Corporation of New Zealand. Meridian supplys electricity to over 180,000 customers throughout New Zealand – including households, businesses and farms. Meridian produces electricity only from renewable resources - that's water, wind and sun.

Does it cost anything to switch to Meridian ?

No, Meridian doesn't charge any application fees or bonds.

Will I lose power supply if I switch?

No, switching is a quick and easy process, with no disruption to your business or farm. Switching happens in four easy steps:

• You tell Meridian that you want to switch to them
• They'll let your existing power company know that you are switching to Meridian
• Your existing power company determines a final meter reading (this may be an estimate) and lets Meridian know
• You're switched over and become a customer of Meridian

My current retailer offers a higher prompt payment discount (PPD) ?

It's important to look at the PPD amount in the context of the final amount you are paying each month and the whole package on offer. In some cases, even with a higher PPD you may still be paying more than if you were with an electricity company with a lower PPD. Other things to consider are the quality of service and support the electricity company is providing or has available to you, what promotional offers and do they support the partner association you may belong to? All of these factors could be important when you're running a business.

Meridian recognises that running a business and budgeting ahead is no easy task. With a Fixed Energy Plan, you'll always know what rate you're paying for the energy portion of your electricity bill. It can help provide some price certainty and make budgeting easier. The Fixed Energy Plan is available with all three Business Packs.
